Myseum / 36 Questions that Lead to Loving TO: Taste of Danforth

Myseum of Toronto brings 36 Questions that Lead to Loving TO: Taste of Danforth to the Kids Zone! It’s an interactive pop-up experience that invites you to explore the commitment you have to the city and to each other.

36 Questions that Lead to Loving TO presents a series of questions that ignite the spark to fall in love with Toronto – for the first time, or all over again.

Festival goers are invited to answer all of the questions or only the ones that speak to them. You can get deep, have fun, and be brutally honest about what you love or hate about Toronto (and everything in between).

Bring kids, family, and friends and fall in love with Toronto at Taste of the Danforth.

Thank you @cityofto for your support.

Little City-Builders Mural / led by Monica Wickeler

The Ontario Line construction and construction of the new Pape Station on the north side of Danforth will change the neighbourhood over the next few years.

The Taste of the Danforth Little City Builders Kids Zone invites children and families to be part of the conversation about city building and planning, how people see their city and their sense of belonging.

Local Artist, Monica Wickeler, will create a large (32 foot!) community based mural on panels which looks at GreekTown, city maps, transit planning and how community members work together to build a city.

Over the course of the festival families and kids will have an opportunity to be professional artists themselves filling in the mural (with plenty of help from the pros of course!).

After the festival everyone will be able to see your hard work as the mural will become part of construction hoarding for the new Pape Station project headed by Metrolinx.

Monica Wickeler: Also known as @monicaonthemoon in the public art industry. When Monica isn’t found on tip-toes at the top of scaffolding or balancing a ladder just so to reach the top corner of a mural, she can be found sharing her joy of mural/street art with school students and sharing how it can transform a community or forgotten space in the most beautiful way.

Monica is a trained visual artist who has worked in the large-scale painting industry in Toronto for many years. In outdoor advertising, as a mural artist and in film and television, as a scenic artist. More recently she can be found reclaiming community spaces with her vibrant public art. Painting community murals in playgrounds, on wading pools, in pedestrian laneways, on construction hoarding and on just about anything that stays still long enough.

Mural Walking Tours / led by East End Arts

Led by East End Arts staff these tours will take place in the mornings of Taste of the Danforth on Saturday and Sunday at 11am before the Festival begins.

Starting at Pape and Danforth (look for volunteers with their #EastEndLove buttons) and traveling west, visitors will see a lot of the vibrant art on display in GreekTown! Along this route they’ll discover work and stories that celebrates our connections to one another, to our neighbours, and how unstoppable we are as a force for collective good.

They’ll hear directly from local artists about their work and inspiration while learning about different styles of murals – line and lettering work, bucket paint vs. aerosol and the brave will even have their opportunity to try their hand at adding to a mural themselves!

These mural tours are a great excuse to fill up on culture before checking out the reimagined Taste of the Danforth early in the day before the big crowds!
